The SID-MEC Student Award is granted for an outstanding scientific or technical achievement in, or contribution to, research on information display. The award, which amounts to €1500, will be presented at the SID-MEC meeting and the winner will present his/her contribution there. In addition, the winner’s conference fee will be waived. The applicant must be a student member at an institute in the SID-MEC region. Applications should be submitted to the award committee consisting presently of: Hans-Jürgen Lemp (Merck), Herbert De Smet (Ghent University), Norbert Fruehauf (University of Stuttgart).
The submission for the student award is closed!

Frits Dijksman, University of Twente:
Ink jet technology: past and future, science and applications.
Abstract:
The dynamics of jets and droplets have inspired many scientists for
centuries. Although it has been referred to as text book knowledge already
about 100 years ago, it is still a very active field of fluid dynamics. When
it is about small jets and droplets surface tension starts to play a
dominant role, this is considered typical for fluid dynamics on a small
scale: called microfluidics. With the development of ink jet technology this
scientific field has developed in what is often called the most successful
application of microfluidics. Next to some historical remarks, the talk will focus
on new and challenging applications.
